BENEFITS
The Union Contractors contribute $2.00 per hour into trust funds on behalf of every member.  These contributions are held by a Trust Fund Administrator (Tedro & Associates).  They are not sent to the Union or held by the company.  These funds are distributed according to the rules set by a committee consisting of equal numbers of Union and Contractor Representatives.
The specific funds and amount per hour are:
        Welfare (Medical)                     $1.10 per hour
        Bonus/Vacation Accrual                .35 per hour
        Training                                      .50 per hour
        Industry Adv.                               .05 per hour

Medical
Local 847 members should become eligible for Medical benefits after 6-9 months of employment.  To become eligible, a worker must work 360 hours in one of the defined three month time periods, or “Quarters”. Once a member has completed the minimum number of hours in a Quarter, the member will be eligible 3 months later as indicated:

Work 360 hrs in these months              Become eligible on this day
1st Quarter- January, February, March;                    July 1st
2nd Quarter- April, May, June;                           October 1st
3rd Quarter- July, August, September;                January 1st
4th Quarter- October, November, December;            April 1st 

Once they are determined to be eligible by our trust fund administrator, Tedro & Associates, members will receive a Medical Card in the mail from the medical insurance provider; Great West. If a member has not received their card, they should contact Tedro, to confirm eligibility and request a card.

To retain eligibility, workers must maintain current membership in the Union and work approx. 120 hours each month on average.  Monthly dues ($22.00 for Apprentice/A-Rodman & $23.00 for Journeyman) must be paid whether a member is working or not.

Once a member is eligible for Medical Benefits, they may also be reimbursed for medical costs they have paid for their spouse or children. The maximum reimbursement is $2,000 for the year 2008. To be eligible for reimbursement, an eligible member must submit official documentation, such as marriage certificate and birth certificates, to Tedro.
